The City of Nashville Metro Public Works Department is beginning its fourth year of practicing Pavement Preservation. Under the effective leadership of Paving Manager Donald Reid, the Department has evaluated several pavement preservation techniques.  Of these processes, fog sealing with PASS is providing real benefit. The Department selects the PASS fog seal treatment to address pavement distresses such as heavy oxidation, moderate to severe raveling and minor cracking. The treatment prevents further pavement deterioration and returns the surface to its original color which aides in delineation of striping and traffic markings. Use of the PASS fog seal provides a safer environment for the traveling public and facilitates significant improvement in the overall roadway network condition. This combination results in a considerable savings for the taxpayers of Nashville.  Mr. Reid estimates use of this process has saved the city over $1 million during the two years it has been used. His implementation and management of an effective, economical and consistent pavement preservation strategy is a model other metro areas could benefit by adopting.
